Blood type A was at decreased risk of both intubation and death relative to type O, while type AB was at increased risk of both outcomes (Fig. Patients with blood type AB appeared to be at a higher risk of ventilation, but the scientists noted that this result may not be reliable due to low numbers of patients with this blood type in their analysis. The study from Columbia Presbyterian examined records of 7,770 patients who tested positive for the coronavirus and found a somewhat lower risk of ventilation for patients with type A blood. ![]() However, Anahita Dua, MD, the senior author of the study, said that blood type was not something she would consider when judging a patient's risk factor for COVID-19. Patients with blood types B and AB who received a COVID-19 test were more likely to test positive and those with type O were less likely to test positive. In those with the virus, type A was 38 percent, type B was 26 percent, type AB was 10 percent, and type O was 25 percent. After multivariable analysis, blood type also was not found to be independently associated with risk of intubation or death. Researchers found no association between blood type and any peak inflammatory markers. The Mass General study looked at COVID-19 data from hospitals across the state of Massachusetts, including 1,289 patients with positive cases and known blood type. ![]() Earlier this year, preliminary data suggested that having type A blood increased the odds of infection and falling seriously ill, but new data show that blood type alone does not offer meaningful protection. Two recent studies, from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, did not find significant evidence that blood type meaningfully affects COVID-19 risk. ![]()

![]() ![]() Compared to the trunk space in my former mid-sized Ford, the cargo space is decent for a vehicle with a small footprint. ![]() Fuel economy seems pretty good so far, about 28-29 with 75-80% being highway miles each week. Ride quality and quietness are very good for a vehicle of diminutive size. I bought the Encore Sport Touring AWD model with the base engine - I find the power to be more than adequate, but I won't win any drag races with it. I was also leery of the long-term durability of the CVT trans in the HR-V - the Encore has a proper 6-speed automatic which seems to work very well. Comparing the two, the interior headroom also seemed a lot better in the Encore. A $5K rebate on the Encore was also hard to walk away from, and no compelling financial incentives on the Honda. To get that feature on the HR-V, you had to spend substantially more $ on the top-line Touring model, which also included other things that I didn't want like leather seats. Comparing the … Encore to the HR-V at our local auto show, I remember thinking, "the Encore is a lot nicer inside." It also had more equipment that I wanted, like a power driver's seat. I would have also considered the Hyundai Kona had it not been for our local Hyundai dealer's bad rep. Small, fuel-efficient SUVs were on my shopping list - and it came down to the Encore and the Honda HR-V after reading reviews online. The 1.4L Turbo power plant is just fine for me and I love the gas mileage! Transmission shifts very smoothly and it handles like a champ!! Great job Buick!!Īfter owning a Ford for several years (traded a 2000 Buick Regal on that), I decided to give the Encore a look when it was time to trade. I bought it outright as I plan to keep it until it dies!! LOL I cannot say how effective the AWD is yet but from what I have heard I will be thankful I spent a little extra $ to get it come winter in Michigan. I have only owned it for 3 days but I think I can honestly say it is the nicest vehicle I have ever owned. While it is a very "techy" vehicle everything is easy to understand and operate. We also test drove a Chevy Trax and while it was nice, there is no comparison to the Encore, much higher quality. I love the quality of the Buick brand and it is a very nice, quiet, … fuel efficient ride. Even if we have people in the back seats there is more than ample room for us to not feel squashed. I was worried that my wife and I (larger than average people) would be crowded in the Encore but we were surprised by the amount of room in it. ![]() Just bought the 2019 Preferred Model Encore AWD and I absolutely love it!!. I highly recommend this Encore to anyone seeking a quality subcompact SUV. It is definitely worth the slightly higher price. This Buick Encore is quiet and smooth and it feels much more like a luxury SUV. There were so many other SUV’s in this class that did not have the technology that this vehicle possesses. The infotainment system is very user friendly. I never thought that I would own a Buick, but I am truly glad that I made the choice to purchase the Encore. I found the engine to have more than ample power both in the city and on the highway. I … read the “CON” of the vehicle was lack of power of the standard engine. I previously owned a Jeep Renegade and a Kia Soul, but neither of these two vehicles had the smooth ride and luxury feel of the interior that the Buick Encore possesses. The Encore is very nimble and handles well in most driving situations. This vehicle became a standout after I finished my research of the vehicles in this class. I am extremely impressed with the 2019 Buick Encore. ![]() ![]() ![]() UPS Freight (now TForce Freight) UPS Freight offers Dedicated, FTL, Intermodal, LTL, Specialized, and Cross-Border services within the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It was still functional after 45 minutes of submersion. Taking the Edition 2 to a community swimming pool, I found this rating to be accurate. This means that the e-reader isn’t rated for dust incursion, but it can remain submerged in two meters of water for up to one hour. I found the Edition 2 still easy to hold, and its weight is almost unnoticeable while carrying it in my backpack.Īs its name implies, the Aura H2O Edition 2 is waterproof, boasting an IPX rating of X8. It’s the same design, although scaled down, as you get with the excellent Kobo Aura One. In its place, you’ll find a flat, textured plastic backplate with a power button placed high and to the left. Gone is the original model’s distinctive angular backplate, which we loved as it was easy to keep a grip on. ![]() With its 5.08 by 6.77 by 0.33-inch dimensions and a weight of 7.3 ounces, the Edition 2 weighs and feels more like a current-generation Kindle Paperwhite than Kobo’s first-generation Aura H20. The Kobo Aura H2O Edition 2’s backplate makes it easy to grip, even when wet. It’s a $180 waterproof e-reader designed to go toe-to-toe with Amazon’s flagship e-reader, the Kindle Oasis. The results of their efforts culminate in the company’s latest device: The Kobo Aura H20 Edition 2. Tech Crunch states, "Rakuten-owned Kobo has executed perfectly on e-reader hardware with the Aura H2O.Over the past few years, Rakuten has revamped its e-readers’ design language, developed unique technologies that Amazon can only dream of baking into its Kindle hardware and, perhaps most importantly, tremendously expanded the variety of content available for download. Reviewers were impressed with the Kobo Aura H2O and recommend it to people who are not already invested in the Amazon ecosystem and want an e-reader with a great screen and protection against accidental drops in water. There is also no pinch-and-zoom capability so reviewers had to manually zoom in using a slider at the bottom of the screen. When attempting to load a book, it took them over a minute load large files and over seven seconds to flip through the pages. TechRadar adds that there's very little in the way of personalization noting that, "The Kobo storefront…is dominated by a carousel of book covers of random authors in random genres."Įxperts also ran into issues when trying to load PDF books. However, critics also point out that the shopping experience is overall far easier and cheaper on the Kindle. Amazon has had years to build up relationships with publishers and authors so it isn't any surprise that they have a bigger selection. Perhaps the biggest downside of the Aura H2O is its store. ![]() When critics compared it to the Kindle Paperwhite 2, they noticed that the background was much whiter and the light distribution was very even. More important than resolution is actual screen quality. The screen itself offers a resolution of 1080p for a pixel density of 265ppi. Despite its slightly larger dimensions, experts found it comfortable to hold for long amounts of time due to the soft-to-the-touch surface and light weight of 227 grams. However, when submerged for over 10 minutes, Gizmodo states that, "For about five minutes after the fact, no matter what we hit, the device shuffled between slow loading and freezing entirely." They add that it worked fine after it dried off completely.ĭesign-wise, the Aura H2O is bigger than the Paperwhite due mostly to the larger 6.8-inch screen. ![]() Not only can it be read under water but it maintains all of its general functionalities thanks to plastic covers for the microUSB and microSD slot. This is perfect for consumers who bring their devices in the bath, pool or beach. What sets this apart from other e-readers? It is IP67 certified, which means it is completely waterproof in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. Kobo is trying to break that with the introduction of their latest e-reader, the Aura H2O. In the market of e-readers, the first name that comes to mind is the Kindle. ![]() ![]() ![]() Fixer to Fabulous: Season Five and Spin-Off Series Ordered by HGTV June 6, 2023.Sullivan's Crossing: Season Two Canadian Drama Gets Early Renewal on The CW June 9, 2023.Perry Mason: Cancelled, No Season Three Renewal for HBO Detective Drama Series. ![]()
![]() The best part of this game is that I don’t have to wrangle my friends together for “Board Game Night.” I can scratch that itch anytime without having to buy pizza and a case of Mountain Dew. Fantasy Flight Games makes the best of the best and Elder Sign: Omens HD does not disappoint. Lovecraft-based games that are intended for you to fail. Games that require multiple decks of cards, lots of little pieces and a 30 minute setup. I’m talking about games that involve character cards, stats, health, sanity, stamina and such. I’m not into games like Monopoly or Trivial Pursuit, although they are fun. Each investigator carries items and has special abilities that can be used throughout the game to help complete tasks. Failing a task will cause the investigator to suffer a penalty, like losing health or stamina. Since the roll isn't failed, the terror effect does not trigger. In this case if you roll a terror result, you can use it to complete the first task, or the second if you also happen to have two perils. ![]() Each team member must complete all of the tasks required in the chosen room or they cannot keep any rewards that turn. 2 Gragt 8:27pm Terror effects only come into play if you fail the roll and one of the dice show a terror result. If Azathoth’s doom track is full before the elder signs can seal the gate, all investigators die and the game is over. In addition to finding elder signs, investigators will find the dreaded doom tokens. The goal is to seal the gate before Azathoth awakens by finding all of the necessary elder signs. Each round brings the game closer to the rise of the Ancient One, the ultimate game ender. ![]() As you might imagine, it’s packed full of magic, monsters, and apocalyptic events, mainly focused around the imminent awakening of a rather grumpy world-destroying beast by the name of Azathoth. If there is only one player, an investigative team of up to four can be picked. Elder Sign: Omens is one of the company’s more recent efforts, and is based on the works of esteemed fantasy horror writer H.P. Even old-timers that have been playing board games like these for years will need a quick run through to learn how to discard, exchange glyphs and buy extra health. ![]() The first thing you will want to do is watch the tutorial videos. It can be played with up to four people as a pass and play game or one person can play the game for all four characters. Designed after Fantasy Flight’s popular dice game of the same name, Elder Sign: Omens HD uses identical artwork and similar gameplay as the physical one, except that, instead of dice, glyphs appear at random in the spell book’s slots. ![]() |
